After seeing obnoxiously gorgeous photos of Aspen this summer, I decided that it was just unacceptable that I had never been there myself. So with my mama bear in tow, I took a little 2 night trip to the mountains to see what all the fuss was about.
The roughly 3 hour drive was just lovely. We were graced with a sunny day, a scenic drive through Leadville (check out my hikes in Leadville here), and hours of entertainment thanks to Dan Savage’s Podcast “Savage Lovecast“.
We hiked, walked around town, successfully ate out 0 times (thanks to our hostel kitchen!), marveled at all the flowers around Aspen, learned some fun facts about Aspen (did you know that Aspen was the first town west of the Mississippi to have electricity?), and had just a lovely time.
It is really exciting for me to look at how much of the west I have seen with my mom since my return to the US. With each trip, we are learning about each other and have become amazing travel companions. I see us doing this for the rest of our lives :).
